Project Mom

This post is for my Project Mom submission. Please be kind.

My name is Shawntrice McCoy. Nobody calls me that, though because it’s a bitch to remember. Everyone just calls me Shawna. I am the Jekyll and Hyde of mom bloggers.

I currently write two blogs; The Well-Fed Spirit and A Bitch Called Mom. The Well-Fed Spirit concentrates on healing oneself from within. I offer a listening ear connected to a kind heart. This blog is for those who desire a fresh perspective on difficult problems that most of us have in common. I want my readers, mostly women, to know that I understand their pains because I have experienced most of them myself. My goal is to inspire healing through a spiritual connection with a kindred soul.

My other blog is called A Bitch Called Mom. This blog talks about the side of motherhood that people pretend doesn’t exist. The side that is sick of tacking up her kids’ “creations” on the fridge. The side that needs a glass of wine before family game night. The side that is suspicious of her husband’s fidelity because she has gained 25 pounds. The bitchy side. The Bitch is not grateful for the joys and wonderment of motherhood. To the contrary, she’s damned sick of it.

I’ve been blogging for just over a month, but I’ve been writing my whole life. I started blogging with the best of intentions. Being a child of poverty, two drug-addicted parents, and the resulting despair, I grew up to be a woman who was quick to anger, slow to forgive, and chronically depressed. I have learned and grown from those hardships, so I wanted to share my knowledge, my first-hand experiences with those who might be dealing with similar issues. Then halfway thru the first month, PMS hit and Mrs. Hyde emerged.

About five years ago I was diagnosed with PMDD, Pre-menstrual Disphoric Disorder. I like to call it extreme PMS. I get enraged for unknown reasons; I feel hatred for my husband and children. I am a completely different person. Medication didn’t do a thing for me, so I figured if I created a forum to say all manner of mean, nasty things about motherhood and wifedom, I would be okay. I guess we’ll see. I admit that I am a little ashamed of it, though.

My primary method of driving traffic to my site is Facebook. I’ve created a page dedicated to the “good blog” and I intend to do the same for the “bad mommy blog.” I’m not afraid of good old-fashioned leg work either, so I pass out fliers at Walmart and post them on neighborhood bulletin boards.

In the end my main objective is to help women. I believe that my purpose in life is to give a voice to those who might not otherwise have one. Sometimes that voice has something good to say. Other times the voice is a bitch. Either way some woman, somewhere will smile or cry or breathe a sigh of relief because, finally, someone understands.

  2. Oh, thank you so much, Jennifer! People have always told me that I'm like two totally different women. Now I have an outlet for both sides of myself. It's empowering to say the least.
